Structure Kits
Chicago Park Depot
![]()
The small prototype structure that this kit models began life in 1886 as a 16 foot square freight shed. It served a sawmill operation on Storm's siding on the Nevada County Narrow Gauge Railroad. The little station was eventually renamed Chicago Park, gained an 8' extension that became the Post Office, and was moved twice before the the railroad realigned a portion of its track, bypassing it in 1908.
Overall footprint, including stairs is about 4-1/2" x 3".

New England Potato House
O scale model shown above.
HO scale model shown above.
Potato houses were a common sight in parts of New England from the late 1800s through the early 1900s. Because New England can be brutally cold in winter, fireplaces were built in virtually every one. Modern insulation materials we take for granted today were not available when these structures were built. Instead of fiberglass or foam board, sawdust was used to fill the spaces in the exterior walls. Many potato houses, due to their construction methods, were consumed in fires. Some survived to become stores, were abandoned, or were put to other uses. These kits will build into one of several similar versions representative of smaller potato houses that were served by rail.
O Scale Part No. NEPH-O. Price: $210.00 + $10.00 shipping.
HO Scale Part No. NEPH-HO. Price: $85.00 - Back in stock.
When potato houses such as these were built, it was common to find other structures nearby using the same chimney style. To help you build scenes prototypical to the area and era, packs of chimneys are available separately. HO chimneys are approximately 1" long, and about 2/10" square at the base. The O scale version measures about 1-7/8" long and 3/8" square at the base. These are white metal castings.
O Scale Part No. CSV-O. Price: $4.50 per 2-pack - direct only.
HO Scale Part No. CSV-HO. Price: $4.25 per 3-pack.
Clamity Jane's in HO
Model and photo by Jim Pasquill.*
Clamity Jane's - Too small for much more than a small counter and a few stools in front of the grill, it is still a popular spot for locals & adventurous tourists. You may have visited a similar establishment in your own travels.
The small building on the pier would make a great bait & tackle shop too. Or even a Harbormaster's office. With the addition of a floating dock & ladder/stairway you could have one busy harbor in short order. The building could also be used as a wayside station for your railroad, leaving the pier wide open for use by fishermen or strolling couples.
Overall dimensions of pier: 8-1/4" long x 3-1/4" wide and measures 2-1/32" from the bottom of the bents to the top of the deck. The height can readily be modified to a shorter dimension.
Alternate business signs are included. Click on a name to see it in a new browser window: Bubba's, Chum's, Ivan's, Eddie's, Ken's, Shelly's, Moody's.
HO Scale - Price: $54.95 (Part no. CJ).
* Not all details shown are included in the kit. Clamity Jane's does include the channel marker buoy, gulls, advertising board, utility pole, table & chairs shown + additional signs and trash barrels.
Our KCRR Chelsea Station kits are available in three scales! The HO version is shown above. Like the prototype, the platform measures a scale 12' x 12', and the shelter 8' x 8'. The door & windows, as well as the colors shown above are similar to what was found on other structures the railroad owned. Click here to see Gary Kohler's built version in a new window.

Randolph Depot in HO
Model and photos by Bob Hayden.
This charming and challenging structure kit has an overall footprint of only 5-1/2" x 7" including the platform. Over 230 pieces of laser cut wood plus peel and stick shingles, laser cut glazing, a few pieces of stripwood and numerous white metal detail castings make this a depot that is perfect for any layout.
Don't need another depot? The architecture of this building easily lends itself for use as a residence or business in almost any era.
The prototype of this depot was situated on ground sloping toward a river. Supplied optional shims were used on the rear & side decks of this kit to bring those areas closer to higher ground levels at the rear. The kit may be built for a level site as well by not using the shims.
Historic information, including color samples, and comprehensive illustrated instructions are included.
HO Scale - Price: $124.95 (Part no. RD).
An S scale version of this kit is available from Ragg's...to Riches.
Special Item!
Four sets of laser cut Weathered Siding remain available for the Randolph Depot kit. Each set replaces the uniform lap siding in the kit with more randomly spaced boards and will give your finished model a less well maintained eye-catching appearance. You can easily intermix the weathered and standard siding to give your model a unique look.
This set is available at the special price of $11.00 + $2.50 shipping in the USA (Part no. RDWS). International shipping available.
Monson Tool House & Car Shed
The Tool House, above left, is one of 2 buildings included in our first HO scale structure kit. This structure is based on unpublished photos of the prototype. Unfortunately, no photograph showing the rear wall has been found. The rear window is the same type used on at least one other Monson structure and addresses the need for some type of light source in the building while allowing for limited security.
The Car Shed on the right was designed using unpublished photographs to supplement published material. The production model is approximately one scale foot wider and has a somewhat less acute roof angle. The car doors are scribed on both sides and have Z bracing inside that replicates the prototype's.
Overall sizes:
- Tool House - 2" x 2 3/4"
- Car Shed - 2" x 7"
- Car Opening - 1 1/8" x 1 1/2" (With foundation)
- Maximum recommended car length: 5"
HO Scale - Price: $49.95 (Part no. MONS-1).
